Last Friday, I turned 54 years old. Wow. Who would have thought I would have made 54 spins around the sun… or, as I’ve said of late … Damn, I’m old.
That being said, thank you to everybody who posted birthday greetings on Facebook. Much appreciated. See you again next year and we’ll repeat our greetings.

THE WALTER MURPHY ORCHESTRA
Flight ’76
Depending on your generation, you might recognize this track as an interpretation of Rimsky-Korsakov’s “Flight of the Bumblebee,” or maybe as the theme to the Green Hornet TV show. I just remember this track as Murphy’s follow-up to his disco smash “A Fifth of Beethoven,” and it was kinda funky in its own right.
MECO
The Wizard of Oz
I would say that Meco hit his peak-o with his medley of themes from the Star Wars movie, but once he had that success, he kept going back to the well over and over and OVER and OVER again. He did a disco version of the theme from Close Encounters of the Third Kind, he did disco versions of the music from The Empire Strikes Back and from Return of the Jedi – and somewhere along the line, he snuck in this piece of disco fluff.
RICK DEES and his CAST OF IDIOTS
Disco Duck
Now wait a minute -before you start throwing shoes and tomatoes at me – if you scrape off Rick Dees’ lyrics and the quacky sing-along vocals – there’s some seriously funky disco buried under here. In fact, I cued this video to start at 2:30 … just so you could hear the instrumental dance track which sounds so much better on the dance floor.

What’s Your Name, What’s Your Number
Yes, Andrea True had more hits than just “More, More, More.” Unfortunately, this was her other hit. Not as strong as “More, More, More,” but at least we’ll always have that other hit.

Yes, it’s THAT Marilyn Chambers. She was in THAT film back in the 70’s. You know, the one that probably played at the Petit Cine 1-2 for about two or three years straight. 😀

Laugh if you must – but remember, not only did this track actually bounce through the disco clubs like a red rubber ball, it went into the Top 40 on the pop charts. Oh yeah, and Michael Zager also produced that track by Marilyn Chambers earlier in this playlist, so you can blame him for that one.
SILVER CONVENTION
Fly, Robin, Fly
This is scary. Silver Convention, at one time, sold more records in the United States than any other artist or group. This song was #1 on the pop charts for what seemed like ages. Ages. Freakin’ ages.
