The return of Electra Woman and Dyna Girl? Seriously?!?

It was probably one of the hokiest Saturday morning TV shows ever filmed.  And considering that it came from the Krofft studios, which balanced fantasy and escapism and total surrealness, made it even more intriguing.

I’m talking about Electra Woman and Dyna Girl, a Saturday morning superhero show that starred Deidre Hall and Judy Strangis as the crime-fighting duo.

Check out the cheezy special effects.  Check out the stilted dialogue.  Check out Deidre Hall in spandex.  Um… well…

This stuff was fun.  And granted, I’m not expecting to see Deidre Hall at any Comic-Con conventions talking about her great memories of the show (I’m wondering if she made this program on days off from Days of Our Lives), but it was a nice diversion nonetheless.

In 2001, there was an attempt to re-make Electra Woman and Dyna Girl as a sitcom, with Markie Post playing a boozy, oversexed, way-past-her-prime Electra Woman who is brought back to the crime-fighting world by an overzealous fan who eventually becomes her new Dyna Girl.  The pilot was supposed to air on the CW or UPN or WB or one of those stations, but I guess there wasn’t a market for superhero TV shows at that time…

So that was sorta fun…

But now comes news that a full-length Electra Woman and Dyna Girl movie will hit digital platforms on June 7.  This version stars Grace Helbig and Hannah Hart, and reboots the show as two superheroes from the Midwest who move to Los Angeles to fight crime.  Here’s the trailer.

Now this could be lots of fun.  We’ve already had one superhero who’s not afraid to play along with and make fun of the tropes of the superhero genre (you left your guns in the cab, Deadpool?  You left all your weaponry that could have won the fight in the back seat of a taxi?), so yeah I’m looking forward to seeing what can be done with this project.

And if this movie does well…

Please.  Please, please, please in the name of Sid and Marty Krofft…

Someone please reboot this series and get it on television or in the movie theaters or somewhere.  I don’t even care if it’s a cosplay event that was filmed on iPhones.

Just do this next.
