Let’s play Christmas Song BINGO!!

The other day, my fellow TU blogger Sara Rose Wheeler posted a photo on her Facebook page.  The page featured the number of times she heard Mariah Carey’s “All I Want For Christmas Is You” over her day job’s sound system.

And a few days earlier, in conversation, someone told me that they’re in a game to avoid hearing the song “The Little Drummer Boy,” in that if they do hear it, they have to post on Facebook where they heard it and when.  Sort of like a holiday tontine, where the last person surviving drinks champagne to toast the other fallen.  Pahrump-a-tum-tum…

And let’s face it.  Among all the great, wonderful Christmas songs that bombard the airwaves around this time, there are some songs that are seriously overplayed.  As in, “We understand why certain radio stations go to an All-Santa format, but does this mean we have to put up with Paul McCartney’s ‘Wonderful Christmas Time’ over and over again?”

Therefore, to combat this holiday musical malaise, I present to you…

Your 2016 CHRISTMAS SONG BINGO CARD.

That’s right.  This is very simple, and you’ll have lots of fun.  Simply print out this blog post.  Then turn on your holiday radio station.  Any time one of the songs are played, place a bingo chip or a penny or a token on the square.  You can play along with your office co-workers by having each worker either listen to a different holiday station, or to stagger the start times for each bingo card or something.  Have fun with this.  You could have a winning square if both song and artist match, or you could go for the easy points and have the song OR the artist match.

Now I’m not questioning the popularity or enjoyment of these songs.  But you have to admit… you can’t swing a Christmas stocking without hitting at least three of these songs, amirite?  And you know that by the end of the day, you’ll hear most of these tracks on your radio, in the store, with your co-workers singing along…
